Court of Appeals grants Voters Not Politicians request, rules ballot language must be final by Aug. 31

The following can be attributed to Katie Fahey, founder and executive director of Voters Not Politicians, regarding the Court of Appeals order (attached) requiring the Board of State Canvassers approve a 100-word statement of purpose of the organization’s ballot proposal on or before August 31.

Today the Court of Appeals once again affirmed the voices of the 425,000 Michigan citizens who signed the Voters Not Politicians petition to place Proposal 2 on the November ballot. We look forward to constructively working with the Secretary of State's office to complete the process so that Michiganders can decide whether voters or politicians should decide our voting districts. This is another important step toward replacing our current redistricting system, which allows politicians to work in secret to adopt voting districts that benefit themselves and their political parties, with one that will put citizens in charge, operating in open meetings, to draw districts that benefit voters, not politicians.

Voters Not Politicians is a nonpartisan, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to passing Proposal 2, a state constitutional amendment to end partisan gerrymandering by taking politicians and lobbyists out of the redistricting process and putting Michigan citizens in charge. Learn more at
