Court of Appeals rules Voters Not Politicians proposal should be on November ballot
The statement below can be attributed to Katie Fahey, founder and executive director, Voters Not Politicians:
“The effort by pro-gerrymandering organizations to prevent voters an opportunity to vote to create a transparent Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission to draw congressional and legislative districts free from partisan bias has failed.
We look forward to the Board of State Canvassers quickly acting to certify our proposal for the November ballot. Voters Not Politicians will continue its education efforts, confident that the more Michigan voters know about this proposal, the bigger its margin of victory.
We ask that the pro-gerrymandering groups engage in public debate on this matter and allow voters their right to vote on this vital reform. We believe that given a choice between the status quo our opposition favors – where politicians and lobbyists operate behind closed doors to manipulate districts for partisan benefit – and our proposal - which puts citizens in charge and mandates full transparency with the public - voters will support Voters Not Politicians in November.
